Design duo Storm Thorgerson Aubrey Powell better known by their collective name Hipgnosis are renowned in the music world for creating iconic cover art for rock and roll greats. From Pink Floyd to Paul McCartney, Hipgnosis have been behind some of the most well know and well loved album artworks, shaping the aesthetic of the music industry since the late 1960s. This new series of limited editions brings the images back to life as archival inkjet prints, each one in beautiful, never before seen, clarity. ‘Pieces of Eight Styx’ is a reprint of the 1978 Styx album of the same name. Celebrating ‘mature glamour’, in Storm Thorgerson’s words, the image depicts the heads of three women, the face of only one turned towards the viewer. Situated on Easter Island and surrounded by the towering Moai while the women sport earrings of miniature Moai, the piece has a distinct mood of Dali esque surrealism and an aesthetic power beyond its musical context. A must have for the Styx fan, the retro music collector, and anyone with a keen eye for the iconic.
